Technique:
The back panel was originally a mirror which we painted straight over with two coats of Peony chalk paint, making it easy to decoupage over. You can use any of The Artisan Company whites or light colours to do this, as this also helps the colours in your decoupage paper pop for the best results.
Using a flat brush for a smooth finish, we then painted the inside in Firefly Velvet Luxe.
We then painted two coats of Gretel's Forest using our round brush on the outside, with very subtle texture, including the handles. We used the detailed angle brush to cut in and to get into the small areas around the door hinges etc.
To deepen the Gretel's Forest and give the piece a more contemporary feel, we then sealed the piece with a Carbon Black coloured wax, which we brushed on with a natural bristle brush, and wiped the excess off with lint-free rags.
To finish the piece, we added just a hint of Forgotten Gold glide to the handles.
