Using Efex Mouldings on a Tissue Box

Using Efex Mouldings on a Tissue Box

We recently had a huge restock of Efex decorative mouldings and appliques and decided to have a good play with them!

In the past we've used them on furniture and our walls, so this time we decided to try something different and turn a plain tissue box cover into something special.

Applying Efex moulding to a Tissue Box

Efex mouldings can be applied to most surfaces using contact adhesive and once painted, they look like they were always there.

On this tissue box we applied the swags to the long sides and the corners to the short ends.

What We Used:

What We Did:

  1. After choosing our mouldings and deciding where to place them, we drew an outline of the moulding on the tissue box. We then used the contact adhesive around the outline and inside of our pencil line and then on the back of the moulding.
  2. After waiting up to 10 minutes for the contact adhesive to be tacky but not wet - when touching it will feel tacky but the glue won't come away on your finger - we then applied the mouldings.
  3. We then applied two coats of premium chalk paint to achieve full coverage.
  4. Once dry we applied a Carbon Black wax (made in a 1:1 chalk paint to clear wax ratio) all over, wiping the excess off with a lint-free rag.
  5. We then applied a touch of Forgotten Gold glide to the mouldings to highlight the beautiful details.

Using the Carbon Black coloured wax is a great way to create shadows and add dimension to the mouldings. Which is then further enhanced by applying the glide (gilding wax) to highlight the details.
