Recreate the look: Decoupaged Tray

Recreate The Look: Decoupaged Tray

In the lead up to Christmas, we are sharing some ideas of what you can create for yourself or as gifts.

First off is a decoupaged tray!

Recreate the look: Decuopaged Tray

For this tray we have used the following products, but you can use an existing tray, different napkins and a different paint colour. The beauty of this project is that you can make it personalised to yourself or the person you're gifting it to.

Products Used:

Please note that for our small trays a 120ml small project pot of chalk paint is plenty.

Technique:

  1. Paint the base of your tray white, we use Beluga, but whichever white you have will work as this helps your napkin colours to pop.
  2. Once you have full coverage, apply your napkin using the Satin lacquer as glue. For the basic technique of using napkins to decoupage, watch our how to video here.
  3. Once dry, apply a top coat of Satin lacquer.
  4. Tape off the napkin on the bottom of your tray to keep it nice and clean, and then paint the rest of your tray in your chosen colour (we used Brickyard red to match our napkin).
  5. Once you have painted for full coverage. Seal the entire tray with two top coats of your Satin lacquer.

This is a fun project and a great way to create a unique tray! If you complete your own tray please share it with us as we would love to see it!
