This fabulously curved, two-tiered side table has been softly aged using dark and coloured waxes.
Painted in Beluga, we have used layers of wax to bring out the detail and create a soft aged feel. This is a great way to create layers of patina on a simple piece of furniture.
Technique:
Painted in Beluga (a great white with a soft grey tint), we painted in all directions to create some texture using our round brush, painting for full coverage.
We then used dark wax over the entire piece using our natural bristle brush and wiping off the excess with a lint-free rag.
Once completed we realised we wanted to soften the dark wax and so created a white wax using Wild Tusk chalk paint. To create a coloured wax, use a ration of 1:1 clear wax and paint, mix on a flat surface making sure that it is well combined (i.e. there are no paint swirls). The coloured wax should still feel like wax, if you've put too much paint in add more clear wax. We then brushed the white wax over the piece concentrating on the flat surfaces where we wanted it to be lighter, and ragged it off.

This was originally painted in Vintro paints but we have updated the colours below for The Artisan Company premium paint range.
