Soft & Subtle with a Shimmer Paint Recipe
This is a beautiful soft and subtle finish with a lovely shimmer.
For this paint recipe, we walk you through how to create a soft and subtle finish using metallics to create shimmer.
This technique works best with warm and soft colours. Try using Duck Egg as a base with Dove coloured wax; or, Wild Heather on the base with Albert Bridge coloured wax.
What you will need:
- Stonebreaker Chalk Paint
- Autumn Glow Chalk Paint
- Clear Wax
- Silver Metallic Paint
- Natural Bristle Brush
- Pro-Hybrid Synthetic Brush
- Silver Gilding Wax
- Gold Gilding Wax
1 - Paint in Stonebreaker chalk paint using the round synthetic brush. Water down the paint by 5% and paint in large crosses to create a very subtle texture.
2 - Add 7-10% water to the paint for the second coat and paint to achieve full coverage.
3 - Make a coloured wax using Autumn Glow chalk paint and Clear wax, using a 1:1 ratio. Brush on with a natural bristle brush and wipe off excess with a rag.
4 - Create a metallic wash using Silver metallic paint and water in a 50/50 mix. Brush on with the synthetic brush in sections and rag off excess.
Tip: Make sure to stir the wash frequently so it doesn't separate.
5 - Detail the edges with Silver and/or Gold gilding wax, use either a finger or a detail brush.
Tip: Mix gilding waxes together to create your own 'Champagne Gold' colour.
