Soft & Elegant with a Shimmer Paint Recipe
A beautifully soft and elegant grey with a shimmery finish.
For this paint recipe, we walk you through how to create an elegant finish with a silver wash to add shimmer.
This technique works really well with the pale to mid-toned greys and warm whites, making sure to use a darker warm colour for the wax. Another colour option could be Dove for the base with Cafe au Lait for the wax.
What you will need:
- Paloma Chalk Paint
- Stonebreaker Chalk Paint
- Clear Wax
- Metallic Silver Paint
- Natural Bristle Brush
- Pro-Hybrid Synthetic Brush
- Optional: Silver Gilding Wax
1 - Paint in Paloma using a pro-hybrid round synthetic brush. Water paint down by about 5% and paint in large crosses to create subtle texture.
2 - Paint a second coat for full coverage, adding 5% water.
3 - Create a coloured wax using Stonebreaker chalk paint and Clear wax. Combine paint and wax in a 1:1 ratio. Brush on with a natural bristle brush and wipe off excess with a rag.
4 - Create a metallic wash by mixing 50% water and 50% Silver metallic paint in a bowl, make sure to stir frequently as it can separate. Brush wash over the waxed finish with the synthetic brush and rag off excess with a clean rag.
Tip: When using a wash work in sections so you have more time to play. The longer you leave a wash on, the darker the colour will be.
5 - Optional: Use Silver gilding wax to highlight the edges and details.
