A wonderfully rustic, textured and aged finish, with touches of elegance.
For this paint recipe, we walk you through how to create an elegant finish using gold over a rustic and aged effect.
This technique works really well with all colours. When choosing paint colours make sure to choose ones that are complimentary, e.g. Autumn Glow, Madame de Pompadour and Wild Heather; or, Old Lace, Mulberry and Old Mauve.
What you will need:
- Crystal Chalk Paint
- Duck Egg Chalk Paint
- Casper Chalk Paint
- Dark Wax
- Metallic Gold Paint
- Natural Bristle Brush
- Pro-Hybrid Synthetic Brush
- Optional: Silver Gilding Wax
1 - Paint in layers with Crystal, Duck Egg and Casper chalk paints using a pro-hybrid round synthetic brush. Start with the lightest colour and paint in all directions to create texture.
Tip: You don't need to paint full layers of each colour, play around with layering and placement to create depth, highlights and lowlights.
2 - Use 240 grit sandpaper to lightly sand back layers of chalk paint to show different colours coming through.
3 - Brush on Dark wax with a natural bristle brush and wipe off excess with a rag.
4 - Decant Gold metallic paint onto a plate or piece of baking paper and dab on with a scrunched up rag.
