A fresh and airy take on using white.

For this paint recipe, we walk you through how to create a soft and airy pale grey finish, a wonderful way to use light colours while keeping it soft and elegant.

We're using Imperial Linen as the base for this recipe but you could use Parisian Grey for a slightly darker look. Or try Sea Mist as the base and replace Beluga for the Sea Mist coloured wax, this will give a lighter look.

What you will need:

1 - Paint in Imperial Linen chalk paint using the round synthetic brush. Paint in large crosses to create subtle texture. Do a second coat if needed for full coverage.

2 - Apply the Soft Gold metallic creme to any areas you wish to highlight, e.g. bevels, raised carved details etc.

3 - Make a coloured wax using Sea Mist chalk paint and Clear wax, using a 1:1 ratio. Using your natural bristle brush, lightly brush over your paint finish to seal it. Wiping off any excess with a clean rag.

4 - Make a coloured wax using Potters Clay chalk paint and Clear wax, using a 1:1 ratio, or slightly stronger than your Sea Mist wax. Pick up a small amount on your natural bristle brush and brush out in the corners, along legs, around drawer edges and details to create soft shadows. Wipe any excess off with a lint free rag.

5 - Make a coloured wax using Clubhouse Grey chalk paint and Clear wax, using a 1:1 ratio, or slightly stronger than your Sea Mist wax. Pick up a small amount on your natural bristle brush and apply to carved details and areas you wish to create deeper shadows. Wipe any excess off with a lint free rag. Use fine steel wool to gently blend the coloured waxes together.
