Aged & Textured French-Style Blue-Grey Paint Recipe
This is an aged and textured French-style blue-grey finish.
For this paint recipe, we walk you through how to create a lovely aged and textured finish using classic French blues and greys.
This technique can work with all colours, choosing a coloured wax that complements the base colour. Try it with Verdant as a base colour, Dark wax and Duck Egg wax; or, Albert Bridge as a base colour, Dark wax and Wild Heather wax.
What you will need:
- Aurora Chalk Paint
- Dove Chalk Paint
- Clear Wax
- Dark Wax
- Natural Bristle Brush
- Pro-Hybrid Synthetic Brush
- Optional: Silver Gilding Wax
1 - Paint in Aurora chalk paint using the round synthetic brush. Paint in large crosses to create subtle texture.
2 - Add 5% water to the paint for the second coat and paint to achieve full coverage.
3 - Brush Dark wax on with a natural bristle brush and wipe off excess with a rag.
4 - Make a coloured wax using Dove chalk paint and Clear wax, using a 1:1 ratio. Brush on with a natural bristle brush and wipe off excess with a rag.
5 - Use fine (0000 grade) steel wool to pull back the layers of wax to create highlights.
6 - Optional: Detail the edges with Silver gilding wax, use either a finger or a detail brush.
