This dresser has been given a new lease of life in a soft green with layers of coloured waxes and a metallic shimmer.
We have brought back a paint finish we created years ago with Vintro chalk paint and have reimagined it using the range of Artisan paints. We absolutely love these techniques and will be doing them more often!
Technique:
Efex mouldings were applied to the front drawer and the legs with Ados contact adhesive.
We then painted in Baked Apple chalk paint using the angled detail brush to cut in and our round brush for subtle texture, we painted for full coverage.
We then applied Dark wax to the front, the mouldings and around the mirror frame. Brushing on with our natural bristle brush and wiping the excess off with a lint-free rag. For the rest of the dresser we diluted our Dark wax with a third Clear wax. This gave a subtler finish.
We then made a Baked Apple coloured wax using a 1:1 paint:clear wax formula. We brushed this on with our natural bristle brush and wiped the excess off with a lint-free rag. This created soft and subtle layers bringing out the details.
We then applied a metallic wash. To do this we mixed equal parts Somerset Gold and Arcadian Silver metallic concentrates with our Illuminator. Once mixed well we watered it down with water until it was a very thin consistency. We then brushed on with our round brush and wiped it back with a clean lint-free rag. This gives a really soft metallic sheen. Please note that we allowed a few days for the wax to dry before we did this step.
Finally we added Eternal gilding wax to the edges, mouldings and handles to give added dimension.
