This country style hall table has been given an updated, industrial look.

We refinished the table top which had been badly damaged with water rings and ballpoint scribbles, painted the legs in Carbon Black and updated the handle.

Technique:

The top was badly damaged so we sanded it back. First we sanded using a 100 grit sandpaper, this removed the varnish, water stains and ballpoint pen scribbles. We then used a 140 grit sandpaper to start buffing out any scratches. We finished with  180 grit and then 240 grit, this is to smooth out the top and to create a nice finish. We recommend using at least three different grits, starting with rough and moving to a smoother grit as you go. Make sure when sanding to go with the grain!

Once sanded we cleaned the dust and then used fine steel wool to buff the Dark Wax into the raw wood, wiping off an excess with a lint-free rag. We did three coats to seal the wood and create an even colour.

For the legs we painted in Carbon Black chalk paint with our flat brush for full coverage. We then finished with Clear Wax and updated the handle.

Products used:

This was originally painted in Vintro paints but we have updated the colours below
for The Artisan Company premium paint range.
