This stool comes to you from a galaxy far, far away...

We were playing with a few different techniques on this stool and love how it turned out! With a base colour of Royal Navy, a deep blue, we added layers of coloured glazes and finished off with some gold.

Glazes are a great way to use left-over paint. They create a strong and hard-wearing finish and can be a good alternative to coloured wax for exterior projects or dining tables.

Technique:

Starting with a base coat of Royal Navy chalk paint, we then added a layer of Peacock glaze and then Forget Me Not glaze to the whole surface. Dabbing it off more in some parts and less in others.

We then sealed the entire stool with a coat of lacquer before using our next glazes. For the next two layers we made stronger glazes (more paint added) and only applied them to different areas, using Allium and Azure Kingfisher.

Once we were happy with the colour, we used a scrunched up rag to dab on metallic gold paint.

How To Make A Glaze:

For a standard glaze add one part water to one part lacquer and mix thoroughly. Once well combined, add one part chalk paint and mix.

You can play around with strengths by adding more paint or lacquer to achieve different looks.

Products Used:

This was originally painted in Vintro paints but we have updated the colours below for The Artisan Company premium paint range.
