Watch our free video on our website or subscribe to our YouTube channel @dooneydaughters
In this free How To video, we create a soft grey finish by mixing and merging different colours and then layering with coloured waxes.
This is a longer tutorial that teaches multiple techniques, including:
- applying Efex mouldings
- merging two different paint colours
- making coloured wax
- applying multiple coloured waxes
- mixing Metallic Alchemy
- dry brushing metallics for an aged finish
Tools recommended in this video:
- Efex mouldings - we used Trim T63 Reed & Flower
- Ados F2 Contact Adhesive
- Pencil
- Parisian Grey Chalk Paint
- Rivers Peak Chalk Paint
- Beluga Chalk Paint
- Clubhouse Grey Chalk Paint
- Clear Wax
- Staalmeester Round Pro-Hybrid Brush
- Staalmeester Angled Fitch Brush
- Staalmeester Natural Bristle Wax Brush
- Indie Gold Metallic Concentrate
- Illuminator
- Staalmeester Small Artist Brush
- Baking Paper
- Premium Lint-Free White Rags
- Can opener
- Olive Soap
Tips for using this technique:
- Choose colours within the same palette using lighter and darker shades.
- Keep playing and layering until you are happy with the finish.
- Think about where natural highlights would be and focus lighter colours there, and focus the darker colours where the shadows would naturally occur.
- Use the metallic sparingly and wipe back with a clean rag - you can keep layering until you're happy with the strength.
